Proof Two Cent Pieces
1865 2C PR66 Red PCGS. CAC. The reported mintage for the 1865 proof two cent is 500+ pieces, but no official tallies were kept for minor proof coinage at that time. Most pieces that come to market have lost their original red coloration and display deeper brown or red-brown patina.
This spectacular Premium Gem two cent proof is a delightful exception. Each side is copper and amber-gold with magenta accents and strong field reflectivity. The strike is absolutely razor-sharp, as expected. This marvelously preserved offering would serve as a highlight in any set. It is housed in a green label holder with a CAC approval sticker to match. Among the finest in this category. Population: 7 in 66 Red, 10 finer, including Cameo and Deep Cameo. CAC: 2 in 66, 0 finer (9/17).
