Proof Shield Nickels
1869 5C PR66+ Cameo PCGS. CAC. The majority of proof 1869 nickels grade no finer than PR64, and this PR66+ Cameo is among the few finest at PCGS, in the Condition Census or nearly so. The gleaming silver-white surfaces show considerable contrast and impeccable surface preservation. A squiggly lint mark on the reverse appears left of the topmost star. This piece is one of the Wide Date varieties like all proofs, although the Wide Date-Narrow Date variants are not well-known. Population: 18 in 66 (4 in 66+) Cameo, 1 finer. CAC: 12 in 66, 0 finer (8/17).
