Early Half Dimes
1795 H10C V-4, LM-10, R.3, MS63 ANACS. The early die state, cracked on the obverse with bold clash marks in the fields but no rim cud above the TY in LIBERTY. The stars are sharp and bold in this die state, prior to the die lapping that was performed to efface the clash marks. This die pairing is fairly plentiful in the absolute sense, but any Uncirculated 1795 half dime is scarce compared to the demand that the Flowing Hair type experiences in such grades. This Select LM-10 coin is satiny and brilliant with only some light handling marks on the cheek preventing a finer grade. Considerable strike weakness on the eagle's breast and right (facing) wing mirrors incompleteness at the center of Liberty's hair curls; some degree of strike weakness is encountered on most examples of this type. Although produced on a screw press, this early half dime shows an even die impression and has complete dentils around each side.
