Mercury Dimes
1916-D 10C XF40 PCGS. CAC. The 1916-D had a mintage of only 264,000 coins, the smallest production of any Mercury dime, possibly other than the overdates (the mintage of the latter two varieties is not known). Examples in XF grades are elusive, far more so than in other grade categories. PCGS has certified 6,700 pieces in Fine and lower grades, 359 VF pieces, 207 examples in XF, 343 pieces in AU grades, and 374 Mint State coins. Housed in a green-label PCGS holder, this key Mercury dime displays pleasing light gray surfaces with delicate champagne overtones.
