Proof Seated Half Dollars
1847 50C PR64 PCGS. CAC. Our research into this issue indicates that only 10 proof examples are known in all grades, and only one of those is clearly finer than the present piece from the famous Garrett Collection. One of the known pieces is held in the Smithsonian Institution, and another represents the 1847/6 overdate, so just eight of these non-overdated pieces are available to collectors. This Choice proof exhibits lovely dappled gold and iridescent toning over fully mirrored fields and sharp design elements. Population: 3 in 64, 0 finer. CAC: 1 in 64, 1 finer (9/17).
