Early Dollars
1799 $1 8x5 Stars, B-23, BB-159, R.3, XF45+ NGC. Bowers Die State II. The usual die state, with a faint, lumpy die crack from between B and E of LIBERTY into the upper-left field and no sign of die clashing. As the only 1799 variety with the 8x5 star arrangement, BB-159 is always in big demand among early dollar specialists and variety-minded type collectors. This high-end, Choice XF example with the NGC Plus designation shows moderate wear but retains much mint luster on both sides. The fields are smooth with few abrasions or marks, the devices sharply struck. Lovely amber-gold and gunmetal-blue toning at the margins lightens to golden-gray at the centers.
