Indian Quarter Eagles
1911-D $2 1/2 MS63 NGC. The mintmark is sharp on this piece, as are the eagle's wing feathers, neck, and talons; the obverse headdress feathers are similarly well-defined, and a strong knife rim along the right-obverse periphery confirms the authenticity of this key-date coin. Satiny orange-gold luster has a faintly granular texture under magnification, as is the characteristic look of the 1911-D. A lack of severe abrasions makes this piece among the more appealing MS63-graded examples that we have handled. The 1911-D Indian quarter eagle in Mint State is a sought-after issue, but it is collectible in most grades for a price. However, finer than MS63, the date starts to become genuinely elusive.
