1879 $3 MS64 PCGS. After a temporary period of mass production in 1878, output returned to normal in 1879, when only 3,000 coins were struck. Comparable examples are scarcely seen, and finer coins in Gem condition or better are truly rare. This smooth yellow-gold offering is strongly struck on the curls and wreath. Lustrous with a hint of semiprooflike reflectivity in the fields.
