Proof Liberty Half Eagles
1902 $5 PR62 NGC. The Philadelphia Mint switched to an all-brilliant finish for proof coins in 1902, making coins with cameo contrast few and far between. This attractive PR62 example is typical of the new style, with razor-sharp definition on all design elements and deeply reflective fields, but little in the way of field/device contrast. The lemon-yellow surfaces show a few minor hair lines and contact marks, but overall eye appeal is outstanding. From a reported mintage of 162 pieces. Census: 1 in 62, 21 finer, including 9 finer Cameo specimens (9/17).
