Liberty Double Eagles
1874-CC $20 AU53 NGC. Variety 3-A. Bright, yellow-gold surfaces and prooflike flash around the stars and legends counterbalance myriad small ticks and marks that characterize the 1874-CC. The issue was roughly handled at the Mint and during transport. Most pieces circulated at least briefly. A mushy strike on the hair does little to help the eye appeal, although this example is better than many in that regard. This is a challenging Type Two CC-Mint twenty to find any finer for the grade.
