Early Half Dollars
1794 50C O-105, T-3, R.5 -- Tooled, Improperly Cleaned -- NCS. VG Details. Tompkins Die State 1/3. An area of smoothing in the upper-right obverse field and a subsequent cleaning support the NCS Details grade. Small pits and light lines exist randomly throughout the otherwise smooth surfaces. Pleasing golden-gray toning deepens at the margins. Slight weakness at the right-hand stars exists, and loss of definition at the upper reverse is the result of die sinking. This is a reasonable example of the scarce 1794 O-105 variety, despite the noted problems.
