Early Half Dollars
1795/1795 50C 3 Leaves, O-111, T-19, High R.4, VF20 NGC. Tompkins Die Stage 1/3. The dramatic, 1795/1795 overdate appears on both the O-111 and O-112 varieties, but only O-111 pairs it with the distinctive and highly desired Three Leaves reverse. Characterized by a bold, curving die break and sinking of the lower-left quadrant of the reverse, the three-leaves feature and adjacent motifs are always higher in grade than the surrounding, more-exposed surfaces. Original, attractive examples such as this coin are seldom available. Each side is original with varying shades of silver-gray patina. Sharply detailed and appealing, the most noticeable marks include a toned-over scrape in the field near Liberty's forehead and some light adjustment marks in the upper obverse fields and margins.
