Bust Half Dollars
1813 50C 50C Over UNI, O-101a, R.4, AU53 PCGS. A silver-gray example of this popular Guide Book variety, struck from a late state of the reverse die with the olive stem weakened and dentils lost to die lapping. Pale-gold toning adds appeal to the softly lustrous silver-gray surfaces, with some deep-gray patina at the right edge of the scroll and at the lower-left reverse. Traces of UNI exist where the engraver (John Reich, his eyesight failing) at first started the first few letters of UNITED at the bottom arrowhead, instead of above the eagle's wing tip. Population: 13 in 53, 52 finer (9/17).
