Seated Half Dollars
1855-S 50C Arrows, WB-101, Die Pair 1, R.5, Fine 12 PCGS. The existence of several chop-marked 1855-S half dollars suggests that much of the small, 129,950-piece mintage may have been lost to the China trade. Circulated examples of this San Francisco date are scarce in all conditions, and the present example is a seldom-seen survivor. Moderate wear across the obverse defines the grade, where LIBERTY is weak at the central letters, scroll, and shield bottom. Some dark build-up surrounds the portrait and a few of the stars. Population (all varieties combined): 10 in 12, 64 finer (9/17).
