1798 $1 Large Eagle, Pointed 9, B-14, BB-122, R.3, XF40 NGC. Bowers Die State V. Cracks run through stars 2 to 6, and the leaf under the C in AMERICA is partly lapped. According to Dave Bowers, "The variety is very rare above EF and virtually unknown in Mint State." Most examples survive in VF condition or lower. This early dollar is evenly struck with moderate friction from light circulation. Battleship-gray patina covers most of each side with complementary accents of gold and blue interspersed. Void of major marks.
