1865 $1 PR61 NGC. OC-P2, R.3. The 1865 Seated dollar is a challenging issue in either circulation-strike or proof format. Merely 46,500 coins were produced for commercial use, and 500 more were specially manufactured for sale to collectors. High-grade circulation strikes are often out of reach, placing added date pressure on proofs like this. Each side is totally brilliant. Frosted motifs contrast boldly against reflective, moderately hairlined fields. Impressive for the grade.
