Indian Half Eagles
1913 $5 MS64 PCGS. With a mintage of 916,000 coins, this issue is one of the highest production Indian half eagles in the series from 1908 to 1929. In fact, only the 1909-D and 1911-S issues had higher mintages. But mintage is not the only important factor -- this date is plentiful in MS64 grade, but it is a rarity any finer, with just 55 better coins certified by PCGS (9/17). The near-Gem example offered here is frosty and lustrous with brilliant yellow-gold surfaces. It is sharply struck and aesthetically desirable.
Ex: Long Beach Signature (Heritage, 5-6/2007), lot 2423.
