Saint-Gaudens Double Eagles
1911-S $20 MS65 PCGS. A perfect choice for a type set, the obverse of the this handsome piece bears almost none of the marks that one usually encounters on these large, heavy coins. Instead, the surfaces are smooth and satiny with rich golden-yellow toning. A tiny mark to the right of Liberty's head is the only one worth mentioning. The reverse is also impressive, with most elements well-struck and only a few stray nicks here and there. The 1911-S double eagle becomes rare above this grade level, with PCGS only grading 43 pieces finer (9/17).
