Territorial Gold
(1842-52) G$1 A. Bechtler Dollar, 27G., 21C., Plain Edge XF40 PCGS. CAC. K-24, R.3. Augustus Bechtler assumed control of the family business in Rutherfordton, North Carolina around 1840. For more than a decade, he operated concurrently with the branch mint in Charlotte. The Bechtlers are best-known for the high quality of their coinage and for striking the first gold dollars to circulate in this country. This example is strongly defined with trivial friction. Original wheat-gold surfaces display scattered marks that do not diminish the appeal.
