Territorial Gold
1852 $10 Moffat & Co. Wide Date Ten Dollar -- Mount Removed -- NGC Details. XF. K-9, R.6. The San Francisco Picayune ran an article on January 23, 1852 that read: "Improvements. The new ten dollar pieces of Messrs. Moffat & Co.'s issue, made their appearance yesterday, and were put out over the counter of some of our Banking Houses. ... they were not only readily received, but hailed with pleasure as another means of relief" from the large fifty dollar slugs. This circulated example has moderately rough orange-gold surfaces. The fact that it was removed from a mount has little bearing on its appeal or significance. Listed on page 397 of the 2018 Guide Book.
