1854 P1C One Cent, Judd-161 Original, Pollock-187, R.4 PR62 Brown PCGS. Similar to the regular issue large cent, but there are no obverse stars, and the wreath is smaller. Struck in bronze with a plain edge. While it is suggested that metallurgical analysis be conducted if it is suspected a piece is oroide, we also suggest such analysis be conducted on Judd-160 and 161 pieces. The difference between copper and bronze is not immediately obvious, and we have never been certain how the grading services determine the difference just eye-balling it. This piece shows deep brown patina over each side with just the slightest hint of underlying red.
