1866 5C Five Cents, Judd-470, Pollock-562, Low R.6, PR55 PCGS. A bust of George Washington faces right on the obverse, the legend IN GOD WE TRUST above and the date below. A wreath of laurel on the reverse encloses a large broad numeral 5 with the legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA around. Struck in nickel with a plain edge. Also struck in bronze and equally as scarce as the nickel strikings with about a dozen pieces known in each metal. The nickel-gray surfaces have taken on a slight golden peripheral color on each side. Nearly abrasion-free.
