1870 25C Standard Silver Quarter Dollar, Judd-919, Pollock-1023, High R.7, PR64 PCGS. The obverse features the bust of Liberty wearing a coronet with LIBERTY inscribed in raised letters. The motto IN GOD WE TRUST is on a scroll below. The reverse has 25 CENTS inside a wreath of oak and laurel leaves with STANDARD SILVER above and 1870 below. Struck in silver with a plain edge. Less than a dozen examples are known of the silver, plain edge variety. Examples were also struck in silver with a reeded edge, as well as copper and aluminum pieces (both reeded and plain edge). At one time, this pattern came with an old-time holder that identified it as an AW-945 and stated it is from the Farouk Collection. The holder is gone now, and we have no definitive proof of this, but the piece was lightly cleaned and King Farouk did employ a conservator for his coins.
