1786 NJERSY New Jersey Copper, Protruding Tongue, Maris 16-L, W-4840, R.2, VF30 NGC. Die alignment: 210°. Medium brown fields with hints of red and blue toning contrast with tan devices and lettering. A solid example of this popular Guide Book variety, with its distinctive obverse rim cud at RE and the smaller die crack emanating from the horse's mouth giving the variety its name. The Maris 16 obverse die is used on several New Jersey copper varieties; it is in its latest state here. Listed on page 71 of the 2018 Guide Book.
