Claudius II Gothicus. AD 268-270. Antoninianus (22mm, 3.65 g, 6h). Cyzicus mint, 3rd officina. 4th emission, circa mid-September AD 270. Radiate, draped, and cuirassed bust left; ••• below / Two captives seated at base of trophy; –/–//–. Normanby –; RIC V –; Komin 1132; RIC Online 996 corr. (officina; this coin cited). VF, earthen green patina. Extremely rare and possibly the sole example in private hands.

From the Finn Johannessen Collection, purchased from Taher Barakat, 13 August 2005.

Close examination of the present coin reveals that there are three pellets below the bust rather than one. Our coin appears to be from the same obverse die as the specimen from the Komin Hoard (now in Zagreb).
