BAKTRIA, Indo-Greek Kingdom. Apollodotos II, circa 85-65 BC. AE (Bronze, 17 mm, 5.14 g, 12 h), Indian standard. BAΣIΛEΩΣ ΣΩTHPOΣ KAI ΦIΛOΠATOPOΣ AΠOΛΛOΔOTOY Apollo standing right, holding bow and arrow. Rev. 'Maharajasa tratarasa Apaladatasa' (in Karoshti) Tripod; to right, monogram. Bopearachchi 17A. HGC 12, 405. Very rare. Very fine.
It is unclear whether the title ΦIΛOΠATOPOΣ ('father-loving') refers to the Indo-Skythian King Maues - who controlled the area before Apollodotos II - or to a non-royal ancestor of the new king.
