The eldest daughter of Germanicus and Agrippina Senior, Agrippina Junior was banished by her brother the emperor Caligula in 39 AD. Recalled by her uncle Claudius, she eventually married him following the downfall of Messalina. Nero, her son by her first husband Cn. Domitius Ahenobarbus, was adopted by Claudius and succeeded to the throne four years later. Agrippina soon lost her influence over her son and eventually she was murdered in March, 59 AD, on the emperor's order.
