Aquilia Severa, second wife of Elagabalus (220-222). AE 25 mm. Hierapolis mint, Phrygia. Obv. AKVΛ CЄBHPA CЄB. Diademed and draped bust right. Rev. IEPAΠOΛЄITΩN. She-wolf standing left, suckling the twins. Remus and Romolus; in exergue, NЄΩKOP/ΩN. BMC 25.252, 145. AE. g. 8.15 RR. Very rare and superb. Lovely, delicate and expressive portrait. Earthen olive-green patina. About EF.

One of the Vestal Virgins, Julia Aquilia Severa was married to Elagabalus in 220 AD as his second wife. She was divorced the following year, but the Emperor returned to her alter divorcing his third wife Annia Faustina. (D.R. Sear, Greek Imperial Coins, p. 302).
