SICILY. Syracuse. Second Democracy, 466-405 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 24 mm, 17.12 g, 9 h), c. 450 BC. Charioteer driving a quadriga walking to right; above Nike flying right to crown the horses; in exergue, ketos to right. Rev. ΣVRΑΚΟΣΙΟΝ Head of Arethusa to right, wearing a pearl diadem, a simple drop earring and a pearl necklace; around, four dolphins swimming to right. Boehringer 521 (V272/R370) . Toned. Struck on a short flan from a worn obverse die, otherwise, about very fine.
