1778-79 TOKEN Rhode Island Ship Token, Wreath Below, Pewter, XF45 NGC. W-1745, High R.6. Two varieties are known in pewter, W-1735 with VLUGTENDE removed, and W-1745 with a branch placed in the position of that word. The Whitman Encyclopedia of Colonial and Early American Coins reports the respective rarities as URS-3 (three to four known) and URS-5 (nine to 16 known) for the two varieties. This Choice XF example features pleasing surfaces with dark brownish-gray patina and respectable eye appeal. Very slight corrosion on each side is typical of these pewter pieces.
