Proof Flying Eagle Cents
1856 1C Snow-3 -- Improperly Cleaned -- NGC Details. Proof, AU. Rick Snow estimates that only about 20% of known 1856 Flying Eagle cents represent the Snow-3 die pair. Repunching on the 5 in the date is an aid in attributing the obverse, while the reverse is identified by the placement of ONE CENT in relation to the wreath leaves. NGC calls this piece cleaned, although the subdued, satiny luster is likely not much different than what the coin originally had; Snow-3 is known for satin luster and often incomplete details. This bronze-colored example is well-struck and shows pleasing eye appeal.
