Seated Dimes
1856-S 10C F-101, R.5, MS62 NGC. This piece is in a late stage of the F-101 die state but not quite all the way to the F-101a state. Faint die cracks are visible around the obverse border, but the defect under the flag of the 5 is still visible. Both sides have prooflike fields and sharp design elements. The coin is brilliant and has few abrasions. The 1856-S dime comes from a mintage of only 70,000 pieces and is rare in Mint State, with only four such coins at NGC in all grades. Census: 1 in 62, 2 finer (10/17).
