Bust Quarters
1831 25C Small Letters, B-2, R.2, MS64 PCGS. Tompkins Die State 2/4. The fields of this richly toned near-Gem example are prooflike, although the effect is diminished by the intense blue and umber toning that blankets both sides. Struck during the first year of the close collar, reduced diameter quarters, this Browning-2 example displays a Small Letters reverse with numerous die cracks that circumnavigate the outer edges of the letters and arrowheads. A sharply struck Choice Uncirculated example with original surfaces, nearly free of marks and quite pleasing. Population (Small Letters varieties): 66 in 64 (7 in 64+), 17 finer (10/17).
