Standing Liberty Quarters
1919-D 25C MS64 Full Head PCGS. The 1919-D is a semikey in all grades but it becomes a major key date in Full Head. In our experience, this Denver issue is even rarer in Full Head than certified population reports indicate -- only the 1927-S and the 1918/7-S are seen at auction less frequently with Full Head detail. Most Full Head examples offered at auction grade MS64 or MS65, although this should not be mistaken to indicate that most known coins are in these grades. Where large advances in value exist between two grade levels, as in these grades for the 1919-D quarter, numerous resubmissions can occur, and the auction data is skewed with the sales of freshly regraded coins. The 1919-D is also in-demand among Registry Set collectors who often trade Choice and Gem Full Head coins.
This piece is sharp on Liberty's head and the date, and at least partial definition is visible on all shield rivets. The inner shield shows sharp vertical lines but ill-defined horizontal lines. Gold border toning surrounds champagne-gray interiors on each side, and the luster is satiny with minimal abrasions. Population: 31 in 64 (4 in 64+) Full Head, 24 finer (10/17).
