Bust Half Dollars
1832 50C Small Letters, O-122, R.1, MS65 NGC. Vibrant, chromatic multicolor toning progresses from shades of gunmetal-blue and violet to reddish and amber-gold shades on both sides of this richly toned Gem Small Letters half. A vertical tine off the right shield corner and a protruding nub off the lower-right serif of the first T in STATES confirm the die pair. As always, the strike on O-122 is partially weak at the margins, with flatness on Liberty's cap and at the tops of 50 C. The scroll is slightly weak, but readable, at UR of PLURIBUS and at the A in STATES. All else is sharply rendered and the both the colorful toning and mint luster are terrific. This coin is tied for finest of the variety according to the Autumn, 2017 Stephen Herrman Condition Census as well as the Parsley reference (65,64,64,64,64).
