Walking Liberty Half Dollars
1919-S 50C MS65 NGC. The 1919-S Walking Liberty half dollar claims a smallish mintage of 1.5 million pieces and the issue circulated heavily over the years. In absolute terms, the 1919-S is the second-rarest Walking Liberty half dollar in today's market, behind the 1921-S. Fortunately, a number of high quality examples were saved by contemporary collectors, and the issue is not as elusive as one would expect in high grade.
This impressive Gem representative exhibits a better-than-average strike, with clear separation between Liberty's thumb and finger on the wreath hand. Just a touch of the usual softness is evident on the eagle's trailing leg. The well-preserved surfaces radiate satiny mint luster, with a few hints of jade and russet toning at the rims. Census: 19 in 65, 10 finer (10/17).
