Morgan Dollars
1889-CC $1 MS62 PCGS. Slight reflectivity in the fields boosts the eye appeal of this lightly abraded Mint State coin. The strike is sharp, and both sides show small gold and olive overtones across champagne-tinted surfaces. Remarkably, only a few light marks on Liberty's cheek limit the grade.
Among Carson City Morgans, the 1889-CC is the undisputed key, and it is among the most difficult dates in the entire series regardless of mint. Production of the 1889-CC Morgan took place entirely during the last quarter of the year, explaining the limited 350,000-coin mintage at a branch mint that had not struck silver dollars since early 1885. Anti-silver man President Grover Cleveland suspended coinage operations at the Nevada branch mint in March 1885, but the facility was restored to branch mint status in mid-1889 after the pro-silver Benjamin Harrison administration came into office.
