1927-S $1 MS65+ PCGS. CAC. The low mintage of the 1927-S (866,000 pieces) promotes increased demand for scarce Gem examples of the date. Plus-graded Gems are rare, and only a few finer coins are known. This piece is tied for the finest endorsed by CAC. Hints of lavender and gold create iridescent luster, and the sharp design elements complement well-preserved surfaces.
We have never before offered a Plus-graded Gem, and the only finer piece we have handled was an MS66 PCGS coin in our April 2011 Central States Signature sale, which realized $48,875 in a green label holder. The present coin is nearly as important. Population: 87 in 65 (5 in 65+), 2 finer. CAC: 22 in 65, 0 finer (10/17).
