Liberty Quarter Eagles
1849-C $2 1/2 AU55 PCGS. Variety 1. The only known dies for the 1849-C quarter eagles with the mintmark centered above the small 1 in the fraction, and heavily merged with a claw and arrow feather. The Charlotte Mint accomplished a small production of only 10,220 quarter eagles in 1849, and few of those survive in high grades. This Choice AU example has light greenish-gold surfaces with nearly full luster and minimal surface marks. Population: 13 in 55 (1 in 55+), 10 finer (10/17).
