Indian Half Eagles
1916-S $5 MS64+ PCGS. CAC. Decades ago, a small hoard of about 200 1916-S half eagles (240,000 pieces struck) surfaced in El Salvador, explaining the more recent availability of coins in MS64 or lower grades. However, high-end Choice Uncirculated examples with Plus designations and CAC approval stickers, approaching some of the finest known representatives, remain important condition rarities. This San Francisco issue usually comes strongly struck, as evidenced by the bold headdress, shoulder tip, leg, and arrows. Warm peach and green-gold color blends with shimmering frost, attesting to the blatant originality of this offering. PCGS has seen 15 higher grading events. CAC: 21 in 64, 9 finer (11/17).
