Liberty Eagles
1842-O $10 AU53 NGC. Variety 2, showing the mintmark distinctively lower than on the other die marriages. The 1842-O eagle is scarce in AU grades and genuinely rare in Mint State. Only 27,400 pieces were struck, and these were heavily circulated in the South prior to the Civil War. This example displays uniform olive-gold patina and well-detailed design elements. Scattered abrasions accompany light wear, but the eye appeal is pleasing for the issue. Census: 41 in 53, 60 finer (10/17).
