Liberty Double Eagles
1851 $20 MS60 PCGS. The quantity of gold being mined in California during the third year of the great Gold Rush insured a steady supply of the precious yellow metal at all of the Mints, including the Philadelphia Mint, despite its distant physical location, farther from the gold fields than any other mint. Although both sides of this brilliant yellow double eagle exhibit myriad marks that limit the grade, there are no distracting marks that draw the viewer's attention. This is a lovely example for the double eagle aficionado or type collector.
