Liberty Double Eagles
1875-CC $20 MS61 PCGS. Variety 8-B. The 1875-CC is the most plentiful Carson City double eagle in high grade, ideal for the collector seeking a single coin from this mint. However, if cherrypicked for quality, a nice Uncirculated example can be a stand-out highlight in a complete CC-mint date set. Only one other Type Two Carson City twenty, the 1876-CC, is similarly available in Mint State. This MS61 coin is much more appealing than its grade suggests. Frosty, luminous yellow-gold luster rolls around each side, and Liberty's cheek is free of all but a few light handling marks. Semicircular abrasions in the left obverse field limit the grade. An unusual characteristic on this piece is moderate strike weakness on Liberty's hair curls and the eagle's right (facing) wing.
