1869 25C Standard Silver Quarter Dollar, Judd-726, Pollock-807, High R.7, PR65 Cameo NGC. The obverse features a bust right of Liberty wearing a cap ornamented with three stars. A scroll bearing IN GOD WE TRUST is below. The reverse depicts 25 CENTS centered in a small wreath of oak and laurel leaves with STANDARD SILVER above and the date 1869 below. Struck in aluminum with a plain edge. This variant of the usually seen silver quarter dollar pattern is extremely rare with only six examples believed extant. Reflective fields and cameo devices are the distinctive features of this well-struck piece. Unsurprisingly, considering the metal, the surfaces are essentially untoned, although we note a shallow planchet flake below the O in OF. Possibly the finest known example. Population: 1 in 65 Cameo, 0 finer (10/17).
