Three Cent Silver
1865 3CS MS63 NGC. More than 11 million three cent nickels made their debut in 1865, leaving little reason to strike three cent silver coins, which would immediately disappear from circulation or be destined for the melting pot. Just 8,000 silver pieces were struck. This Select Uncirculated example is one of the few survivors. Mostly brilliant and prooflike with a touch of almond-gold at the margins, the sharply struck surfaces show only minor distractions and tiny marks. Census: 22 in 63, 50 finer (10/17).
