Early Half Dollars
1806 50C Pointed 6, No Stem, O-109, T-15, R.1, AU50 PCGS. Apparently distracted, the engraver left off the stem extending through the eagle's claw on this reverse die, proving the stem was one of the elements punched into the working dies by hand. Considerable luster remains on both sides of this pleasing About Uncirculated specimen. Pale-gray and gold toning covers both sides with splashes of iridescence. Struck from an early die stage -- slightly reflective in sheltered areas, without the stars drawn to the edge and lacking the late-developing radial die crack through star 12 to the neck.
