Early Dollars
1799 $1 7x6 Stars, B-5, BB-157, R.2, VF30 PCGS. Bowers Die State III, a frequently seen die state with several reverse cracks. Nearly all examples of the B-5 dollar are die states II and III. State I apparently does not exist, and State IV is quite scarce. This pleasing original dollar has walnut-brown and olive-green toning. The surfaces show only a few scattered small marks and minor reverse residue.
Ex: Central States Signature (Heritage, 4/2012), lot 4858, which realized $2,300.
