Ingots
San Francisco Mint Silver Ingot. 26.53 Ounces. The strong suit of this ingot is its dual hallmarks. The front side has a Type Two Oval hallmark, while the back side has a Round 1956-Dated Hallmark. While not unprecedented, this pairing is definitely unusual. Ken Conaway, silver ingot specialist, has recorded only 15 examples. The serial numbers of the pieces known range from a low of 37 to a high of 1959. Most of the known examples are from lot 164, as is this one. Of the known ingots with dual hallmarks, nine others are from lot 164 (as is this one), one is from lot 2, and six are from unknown lots. This is a well laid out ingot. The front side has a well-impressed oval hallmark (slightly rotated) / 1604 / 26.53 OZS / 999.75 FINE. The lot number is located on the short bottom edge. The back side has the round 1956-dated hallmark located toward the top and again rotated. The surfaces are bright silver with a slight tinge of reddish patina. An opportunity for the specialist in this fascinating series.
