Liberty Quarter Eagles
1854-C $2 1/2 AU53 NGC. Variety 1. A peach-gold example with pleasing sharpness on the stars and dentils, though the centers show incompleteness, most visible on the eagle's central plumage. No marks are remotely mentionable aside from a hair-thin line near star 3 to the nose. The 1854-C quarter eagle is scarce even by Charlotte Mint standards. Just 7,295 pieces were struck, and Doug Winter estimates that only 105 to 145 representatives survive in all grades. Census: 22 in 53 (1 in 53+), 62 finer (10/17).
