Liberty Double Eagles
1861 $20 AU58 PCGS. The Philadelphia Mint struck a really large production of more than 2.7 million Liberty double eagles in 1861. Before the recovery of the S.S. Central America, with its hoard of 1857-S twenties, the 1861 was the Type One double eagle most often seen in the marketplace. This impressive near-Mint specimen shows just a trace of high-point wear and the lightly abraded orange-gold surfaces retain much of their original mint luster.
